Q&A: Tan for safety reasons?
Question by Michael: Tan for safety reasons?
OK, I know it sounds weird, but…I’m very fair complected and I get a sunburn everytime I’m outside for more than 20 mins. A lot of times, I get kinda sick when I’m sunburned, too. When I wear sunscreen, I usually wear SPF 70 or something like that, but I wonder if a a base tan would keep me from burning quite so often? I guess I’m trying to decide if it’s safer to “tan” and burn less often, or “burn” everytime and just suck it up. I know, I know…I should wear sunscreen (I even worked for the American Cancer Society at one point in time, so I know…), BUT, if I can’t ALWAYS wear sunscreen, and I can’t always put it on my own back, and I’m tired of burning all the time; so, what’s the best thing for me to do? If I wanted to tan for cosmetic reasons, I would just use that self-tanning lotion, but that’s not the case. Any advice is really appreciated.
