Summer time is upon us, and you know what that means. It’s time to break out the clothes that cover less, the bathing suits, and the self tanners to give us that sun kissed glow without the sun damage. I’ve found a few new application techniques and tips that can work to both make your sunless tanning prettier and more natural looking, sans the streaks and blotches that put so many people off. I’ve also found a few ways that seem to work really well to make your faux tan last longer.

Have you noticed how people these days prefer a tan? Alright, that may sound like the understatement of the century. The real fact is that a majority of our population seems to wish for a tan year-round. I can’t figure out what is it about that golden brown skin? It all started back in the 1920′s when Coco Chanel had returned from her vacation; it seemed like every person craved for tropical skin. Surely this craze hasn’t faded since then. In fact the tan is as big of an epidemic as it ever was. Both adults as well as teenagers yearn for that golden glow complexion. Unfortunately tanning is not exactly healthy anymore. Well, to be more specific, it never was healthy. But sure we all know about it now. For there is an up-side to this situation. With the innovation of new technology came the plethora of self tanners.

Most men and women feel better when they have that glowing healthy skin, and feel more attractive and dare I say sexy, but over recent years science has shown the dangers of being exposed to high levels of sun, even when using high factor skin protection. This fact has given way to a massive explosion of self tanning products; the results though for many have been at best inconsistent.

It is very important to exfoliate your skin before applying self-tanner. The best way to do this is to use a natural bristle brush, and start from the bottom to the top. If you don’t want to use this technique, then at least use a washcloth to go over the skin in the area you will be using the self tanner on. It will make the application much more even and natural.
