If you do it before you go to bed, you should wake up with noticably darker skin, but it will smell kind of weird, so I always take a quick rinse off in the shower in the morning, but you dont want to shave your legs, etc, because it will take off the tan as well lol...I apply the lotion generally everyday, and it keeps up a fairly natural looking tan...you just have to be careful and if you notice it getting a little bit yellow in color, maybe skip a day so you dont look like an Oompla Loompa from willie wonka! Also, lightly wash your hands after you apply the lotion, because if you don't, they will turn more orange than the rest of your body, because they are generally drier than the rest of your skin, so they soak up the most lotion. I used to tan outside, and I'd get a nice tan, but it's just not worth it to have to worry about skin cancer down the road. I hope you found this helpful!

I use Jergens natural glow lotion…but you have to use it right in order to look the most naturally tan.

It comes in three skin tones (light, medium and dark) It is a moisturizer, so you just apply it daily all over your body (you can also buy natural glow for the face) and let it dry a few minutes before getting dressed. It's the best! It looks so natural! It is waterproof but you have to wait about 4 hours before you can have a shower or bath or go swimming otherwise it will wash off! But if you wait 4 hours than go into water it should be fine!!Good luck.... I hope you try it!!

Jergens natural glow! It retails around $ 26, and is available at most nice department stores, (i.e. dillards, Macy's, Saks), but call ahead to be sure.In general, the ingrdient dihydroxyacetone (DHA), is what "tans" your skin, but when coupled with erythrulose (check ingredients) the results are more natural and smooth. The most convenient and easy to use is Nuetrogena's MicroMist, available at most drugstores. Fabulous color, and all you do is spray it on, no messing around. But it is easy to streak if you don't pay attention. I actually use this mostly for my face, back and chest.Keep in mind, the fairer your skin, the easier to streak. Also, I buff my elbows, back ankles, and arm pit edges lightly with a dry cheapy washrag....Always apply the night before, and never the night of, you'll end up up with stains.Other self tanners that I find pretty decent: ~SkinCeuticals Sans Soleil $ 25 ~Nuetrogena foam self tanner...great great colorLauder, Lancome, Clinique, and Chanel aren't that great....Very orangy.Hope this helps. I have pasty white skin, so I've been using/testing-out this stuff for years.

Best self tanner, bar-none, is Clarins Self Tanning Milk.
